Living Room Update.

It's still looking pretty bare, but I've added a few things...

What's new: 

• AMAZING sheepskin rug!!!
• Embroidery hoop wall swatches over the dining table
• Table runner  
• Fabric panel over TV stand glass (Yay! No more ugly DVDs!)
• Bookcase for kids' books and puzzles

What's Next:

• A big plant to go between the TV and table
• POUFS!
• A stack of vintage suitcases as an end table
• Some big, fluffy fabric pom poms to hang in the corner near the bookcase
• The "Mum" throw pillow, since you know, I really need more pillows on my couch.
• A couple of bright Moroccan lanterns for the top of the bookcase. I may convert them to actual lamps, depending on how motivated I get.
• I need to put something on that wall by the door, I just don't know what yet.
• I may put a few more hoops on the wall. 

Meet Big n' Fluffy

I was digging around in the boys' closet yesterday, and I found an extra big, extra fluffy pillow. Big and fluffy is a good thing for pillows. It's not a good thing when it's taking up tons of space in an already packed closet! Big n' Fluffy has been in hiding because it had no cover. I figured I could clear out a little bit of fabric and closet space by making a pillow cover and putting that mass of squishy, feathery goodness onto my couch. This is what I did:

Disclaimer: The tree with scrappy leaves design is not mine. I've seen it somewhere before, but I cant find it at the moment. 

I cut out the leaf and trunk shapes from various fabrics in my stash. (The trunk used to be part of my viking Halloween costume!) I then used a washable kid's glue stick to stick everything in place.

I used some micro fleece as a backing, then stitched around each piece about 1/8" from the edge. I threw it in the washer and dryer to fray the edges. I finished off the cover by using two overlapping pieces of the main fabric to make a quick sham back

Very Plate-y.

Sooooo....Hubby bought me 2 sets of Thomas Paul Dinner plates for Mothers Day. Mmmm...modern graphic art deliciousness!

I'll also say that working around those outlets was a PAIN!

I FINALLY finished my paintings for the living room. Hubby thinks I need to do one more, but I don't know if I am still motivated...

Throw Pillow Bodacity

My couch got a much needed face lift today.

I scored some lovely Amy Butler fat quarters on Ebay, and this is what two of them became. Both pillows are machine quilted. I used some left over batting from Kyle's monster play quilt and muslin that used to be a play yard sheet. The pillow forms are from the sad, sad pillows that came with my couch. So, both pillows cost me a whopping $4.80.

I love you, Pottery Barn...but you know what you can do with your $40 pillow covers...

Dingle Balls.

As you can see, I have been fake decorating in Photoshop again. I thought that it would be really cute to put some little, orange dingle ball trim on my valance. Apparently, this is not considered normal. My sister then informed me that I may be insane, and should seek help immediately. She also asked if I was a "dingle ball." Ha! Good one sis...I know my style is a bit much for some people, but I'm not worried about them. They'll be just fine.

Looking at my bedroom, you would never guess that I had any style (good or bad) going on. Right now, my room is the result of my decorating commitment issues. White walls and a comforter set from Bed, Bath and Beyond. Yee-Haw! Don't go too wild now! I really am a fun, non-boring person. I promise. I think too many years of white-walls rental living has taken its toll.

Notes: The lovely duvet cover can be found here. Also, the reason I wanted to have the canopy go to the floor, was so I could create a sewing nook behind the bed.

Digital Decorating.

I love using Photoshop to experiment with my decorating plans. I can get a pretty good idea of how a room will look, without all the painting, and crying, and re-painting, and cussing....Working with layers also gives you the ability to change or remove elements without disturbing the rest of the picture. Even done poorly (as in my living room photo above) Photoshop will yield a much more accurate depiction of your room than even the best sketch. That being said, my poor living room has STILL not actually been decorated.

Window Treatment Love.

I normally have a really hard time loving curtains, or window treatments in general. I'm just not a big fan. But then I saw this gorgeous thing here. It's perfect! Not too foofy, but not boring either. That fabric is amazing as well.

Now I just need to decide which window to put it on....

Drooling Over the Cutest Fabric Ever...

This is Starling in pink, by Alexander Henry. Is it not the coolest fabric EVER?! It is totally my inspiration for my bedroom makeover. Every room in my house will be birdi-fied before I'm finished with this place. I just LOOOOVE all the gorgeous bird fabric, art, plates, etc. That's out right now. That's kinda weird too, since I don't even like real birds that much, except chickens. Chickens are awesome...
